Chronic stomach acid
« on: January 13, 2009, 11:46:06 PM »
Hi friends,

I am writing to inquire about people's experiences with stomach acid.
Four weeks ago I was diagnosed with stomach acid problems. I'm not sure exactly what's going on: i have heartburn, stomach pain during the night, lots of stomach churning and pain after I eat, etc.

This feels like it came out of nowhere and now it's a daily chronic problem. I am on 40 mg of Pepcid twice a day and it doesn't seem to be solving the problem. It improves the situation, but the problem continues.

I'm curious if people suffer daily with this kind of stuff and if/when it ever ends!? I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol, I don't drink any caffeine, I don't eat anything fried, and I basically eat very benign foods. I'm really startled by this.

Anybody else experience this? Ahh! It's driving me crazy. And I don't like to be on medicine so I'd love to get off this stuff.
Any thoughts? Shared experiences? Advice?

Many thanks!!

well...I have serious stomach acid problems as well, but sadly I am probably not going to be able to help that much as mine are crazy out of control and make me miserable everyday! I feel like there is nothing I can eat that won't cause an issue with either my GERD or IBS. I have been on medication on and off for years and prescription meds do not work for me.

My acid reflux/GERD causes me so much discomfort that I often times have anxiety attacks from it. I had quit drinking and everything but it never seemed to help so I do still drink an occasional glass of wine...

What I can recommend that has provided me with some relief is eating REALLY small meals consistantly through the day. Also try taking DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) -- its tablets you chew and tastes like sh#t, but if taken right does help....along with coconut oil. Additionally, probiotics help some people (didn't work for me) and is worth a shot.

Another note you should read up on diets -- while you may eat a bland diet, you still could be adding something that causes problems. I have a hard time digesting a lot of green veggies properly...I try to keep a diary of foods that irritate my system -- like I said I haven't had much success yet in finding a balance. Good luck!

I know the feeling, about 6 weeks ago I suddenly started having nausea in the morning, bad enough that i couldnt go to work. After lunch id be starving but after a week of this i realised it was no ordinary stomach bug so my doctor prescribed some PPI drugs which stop your stomach producing so much acid and the first day i had one it was like heaven, just to wake up and not feel nautious.
They dont know the cause yet but im still experiencing it to some degree so ill probably have to have an endoscopy since all other tests have come back normal.

I had that so bad my throat would close up during eating and I would gag up some awful junk, ( I know sounds gross.)

I take 20 mgs of omerprazole 20 mins before eating or drinking in the morning and I am feeling back to normal.

I had the worst stomach acid and in my throat.
