Strange feeling on my arms
« on: December 30, 2008, 03:16:59 PM »
Hey guys, before I go getting freaked out about this, I thought I'd ask here.

Has anyone ever had a strange sensation on your forearms like you're wearing a long sleeve shirt when you're not?  I know it sounds strange, but that's really the only way I can explain the way it feels.  It's happened to both of my arms, but happens on the left side the most.  It started Christmas Eve, and it's been on and off all day long since then.

I'd like to blame it on any of these things:

-anxiety
-lexapro
-crestor
-something muscular

I really just don't want to go back down the whole heart disease road again, I've been doing so well.

It's just the oddest sensation, I keep rubbing my arm to make it go away...it helps for awhile but it always comes back.

This is a form of parathesia Kaytee!

I used to get it a lot on my legs but not so much anymore.  I always used to get the sensation of having socks on when I didn't or sometimes of a band around my ankle, calf or thigh....all very weird and bizzare.

This is a sensory issue that is hugely common with anxiety and I would not be concerned in the least.  It will go as suddenly as it turned up.

Oh Pan I just adore you...I almost feel bad for beating you for most supportive member...lol...almost....

Thank you so much for that info, I feel so much better knowing that it's just one more thing I can blame on anxiety.

Congratualtions!

Regarding that sensation.  You also have to remember that once you have noticed it you are honing in on it and focusing on it and therefore you will start to notice it far more and you will convince yourself it is far worse than it is.

I remember I had the stone in my shoe feeling that lasted about 3 months.  I would be taking my shoes and socks off all day long and shaking them out and desperatly trying to find the little stone which was driving me mad.  I even ended up buying new work shoes and changing my socks about 3 times a day.  Bonkers! :laugh3:

Most of the time those sensations are bothersome only because you feel that they are a sign of something more serious.  The more you focus on them, the worse they get.  The faster you accept that they are caused by anxiety, the faster they go away.

Oh totally, since I read the post from Pan, I've only felt it once, thought to myself "man this anxiety is the weirdest thing" and then I turned my attention to something else and before I knew it, it was gone!

The way I deal with HA is a little weird I guess, as long as someone else tells me that they've had whatever is bothering me as a symptom of their anxiety, I simply let it go.  I felt a million times better just from simply having Pan tell me that it was anxiety.  I guess that means I really am on the road to saneville...lmao...

I just googled "parathesia anxiety" and came up with all kinds of things...I wish I would have known what the term was earlier...so is this one of those symptoms that makes people worry about MS and ALS and the like?

It's funny because since I'm a heart worrier, the tingling in the left arm made me think of heart attack right away.  This just shows me that we all have the same symptoms and turn them around to whatever suits our main fear.

kristy, it just talks about how common these weird feelings on your skin are with anxiety.  Really, that's all...just one site after another that says this is a very common symptom.  Everyone explains the feeling a bit differently, bugs crawling on them, wearing socks, burning sensations, tingling sensations, they're all the same thing....parathesia...which just pretty much means strange feelings on the extremeties or skin in general.

So, next time that happens to you, just remember it's yet another wonderful symptom of anxiety.

The sensations you are feeling could be some form of neuarlgia, which is completely benign. I would not be concerned. Of course
it could be muscular, anxiety, etc.
