Car Sickness and Emetophobia?
« on: December 18, 2008, 12:26:32 AM »
When I was little, every time I rode in my dad's car I got carsick. The school bus did it to me to, but only when it backed up (sometimes I felt sick just in anticipation of being stuck on the bus for 20 minutes on the ride to school and knowing at a certain point on the route it would have to back up). And certain people's driving styles did it to me- jerky stop-and-go driving. Then for a while when I was first in college I had no car and so if I wanted to go somewhere with friends, they always drove and I never seemed to get carsick anymore.

I've also had emetophobia since I was in grade school, every time something out of the ordinary happened to me I would develop nausea and convince myself I was about to vomit and life as I knew it would end. It got better for a few years in college, but has recently returned.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed a correlation between car sickness and emetophobia? I can't even tell anymore if I have true car sickness or if I've just conditioned myself to get in a car and feel nauseated.

Don't want this to affect anyone's answer, but I realized that as I was typing this (and doing some research on how to prevent carsickness) that I feel nauseated right now! And I'm just lying in bed typing and not moving at all!
