Not cured yet
« on: December 02, 2008, 10:58:13 PM »
So, since Thanksgiving, I have been a little better than before.  I have had an upset stomach on and off for a few weeks, causing me to worry about various abdominal cancers - pancreatic, stomach, esophageal etc.  Might as well skip the ones where you have a chance and go straight to the nearly incurable ones.  I visited my family over Thanksgiving and I think the distraction helped alot, and once my anxiety went down, my upset stomach got much better (hmm, wonder why)  It was going pretty well, and then today I was leaning back on a wall, and put my fist between my back and the wall, and that put pressure on my back and it was painful under my ribs - on the right side, about where the pancreas is.  Well, of course I started worrying, even did some careless googling.  It was a little silly to worry anyway, I wend to the Dr. last week for my stomach, had blood drawn, and my blood tests were all normal.   I did finally find the presence of mind to interrupt the downward spiral by going and working out in the afternoon.  Afterward, I tried pushing on my back there and I couldn't recreate the tenderness I had earlier.  I could make it hurt of course, but not the same as earlier, and the left side was the same.  So the good news is I'm not freaking out at the moment, just sitting here with a sore back from jamming my fists into it, but clearly my current peace is very fragile.  I started therapy a few weeks ago, but its clear I have a long way to go.

I am SO proud of you!!!  That was a huge step!  Instead of letting the fears fester inside, you were proactive!!!!
You saw that something was weird, started to worry, so you did something positive (working out) then proved to yourself that you're okay.    You might not see it now, but you just jumped over a HUGE hurdle.

You're sooooooooooo on the right track!!!!!!!!
