Meds making me mean...

I've been on Lexapro for a few months now.  I really like that I'm slowly returning to "myself", and the anxious edge has definitely been reduced!  I have found that I have much better control of my thoughts and I'm not slowly building everything up to be a death sentence.  I'm still working through some of the side effects... but trust will get better in time.

One thing that I have noticed and it has even been apparent to other people (peers at the office) is that I have become some what mean.... much more assertive, unwilling to be taken advantage of, and have much less patience for people.  I would consider myself a pretty sympathetic person as I've been through hell in back with Hell taking several different forms... but lately I have a "GET OVER IT!!!!!!!" attitude toward people. 

Anyone else get this way?  I'd rather be anxious all the time with a compassionate heart than a ball busting feminazi!!  (that's what my peers are calling me now since I've taken on a "If I work this hard every day, I expect you to work at least half as hard" attitude.  We're all good friends, they're not picking on me or being hateful -- that's just their way of proving a point that I'm not quite myself...)

when i was on lexapro for the two years i was - i felt much better but i also became a raving beotch.  at first it was minor annoyance, then it grew to a sort of contempt..and then i was flat out hateful to people that at the time seemed 'slow' or people i had to explain things to more than once...so not me.  i hope this gets better for you

It has been known to lower your inhibitions and to make people more assertive. Don't take it the wrong way, but many think it's their real personality without the anxiety or depression etc. I have not had that problem at all though, but everyone is affected differently by them.

antidepressants can really mess with your moods and emotions. i've found that ativan helps eliminate agitated feelings.
