EVER FEEL LIKE DOCTORS DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT?
« on: August 21, 2006, 02:51:47 AM »
:(  I AM IN CONSTANT PAIN.  MY BODY HURTS EVERYWHERE.  MY DOCTORS TELL ME ITS OK TO TAKE 2400MG OF IBUPROPHEN A DAY WHICH I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR SEVERAL YEARS.  I DONT HAVE ARTHRITIS. BUT I DO HAVE FIBROMYALGIA. THE DOCS SAY THE IBUPROHEN WONT HURT ME, PEOPLE CAN TAKE IT FOR YEARS.  I FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS WRONG IN MY BODY. I CANT HARDLY WALK DUE TO THE PAIN. BUT MY DOCTORS CANT TELL ME WHY.  I AM OVER WEIGHT, BUT I KNOW KNOW SKINNY PEOPLE WHO HAVE PAIN, AND FAT PEOPLE WHO DONT.  I DONT EVER FEEL GOOD, AM ALWAYS TIRED, AND ALWAYS IN PAIN.  IT FEELS LIKE WHEN I GO TO THE DOCTOR, IT IS JUST A REPEAT OF THE TIME BEFORE. NOTHING EVER CHANGES. IT IS SO FRUSTERATING.  ITS LIKE THEY DONT BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY "I AM IN PAIN"!!! I DONT THINK I AM A HYPOCHONDRIAC, BUT I WONDER IF THEY DO.  :fragend005:  :traurig001:

Yep, I think most of us have had that feeling at one time (or many times). It's as if they don't really hear what you're saying sometimes -- or, they're so accustomed to being "smarter" than everyone else that they just ignore your concerns.

A few years ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed -- a very minor thing -- but it didn't go as well as it typically does for many people. First, the socket became infected and was really slow healing. Because of that, I had major swelling on the left side of my jaw, and it was very difficult to open my mouth or to chew food.

So, my oral surgeon kept giving me the same prescription over and over. This went on for over six weeks. He kept giving me amoxicillin and telling me to come back in three days. Each time, I'd go back after three days and nothing would change. He'd tell me I still had an infection and would hand me more amoxicillin. Basically, I would eat soup every day, because my jaw hurt so much. On the bright side, I lost weight.

Finally, after almost two months, I was just sick of it, so I made an appointment with my regular doctor. I went in, showed him my swollen jaw and told him that this amoxicillin was doing nothing for me. My regular doctor wrote me a prescription for a prescription strength painkiller. Two days later, my pain and swelling were almost completely gone, and I was so happy! Less than a week later, I was perfectly find. It was so simple to fix, yet the oral surgeon did nothing to help for two months!!

Thanks for sharing your story.  Yes I think doctors do think they are smarter.  But I know my body! They dont listen.  I think they maybe get tired of listening or something. Doctors are not very personable or empathetic these days! Maybe I need a new one.

I would definately try a new Doc, can't hurt.  Also the think you have to watch with long term Ibupropin is increased blood pressure.
