Average dosage for prozac
« on: November 16, 2008, 02:50:21 PM »
I was put on Prozac 20 mg to start, then within the first two weeks, I was to increase my dose to 40 mg.  I've been on 40 mg for about the last 2  weeks or so.  Been on Prozac for about a month-month and 1/2 tops and still very introverted in myself.  I Feel as though I'm a millions miles away from my own life, which his somewhat confirming my fears of possibly of having had a TIA (mini stroke).  My cognitive functioning seems to be so blunted and I feel like a shell of my former self.  The meds aren't what's giving me this sedated feeling, I don't think anyway.  Prozac worked so well for me in the past and I remember the only reason I stopped was because I was having some pretty bad TMJ symptoms, which may or may not have been related to the Prozac.  This time seems a little different.  While I feel somewhat sedated, the OCD thoughts are just as intrusive and debiliating as they were before.  I've never been this scared in my life and would love to believe this is all anxiety related with the DP/DR and so forth, but now I don't know.  The Prozac isn't doing what it did to me before.  I think the underlying factor may be that I'm also clinically depressed this time, which brings on a whole separate factor in the equation of my treatment.  What is the average dose for Prozac for anyone experienced in taking it? What is the higherst dose they prescribe and is 40 mg really that much?  Thanks in advance for any responses.

Sounds like your a hypochondriac (Been there done that). When my anxiety was at it's worst I thought I had everything from MS (mimics anxiety symptoms), to ALS etc etc. Just go get checked out to put your mind at ease.

dr/dp will make you feel as if your cognition has been blunted. the thing is if antidepressants work for someone, it will take a long time. i don't think it's the dosage. 40mg is about average. the prozac can cause feelings of dr/dp for awhile. you'll probably go to a much higher dose if your ocd. people with ocd usually receive the highest dosage.
