Weird Feelings And Scary Thoughts
« on: November 12, 2008, 10:47:39 AM »
Hi everyone, My name is David and I'm 18 years old. I am just starting Seroquel and Depikote and I also take Klonopin when needed. The past week or so has been horrible for me though. I was on the Depikote and Seroquel at the beginning of the year until about August I think when I thought I didn't need it anymore so I told the Nurse Practicioner that I thought I didn't need it anymore...Until about two weeks ago when my panic and anxiety came back extremely bad, my depression has also been bothering me.

But now after starting these meds again and adding the Klonopin when needed (which is new to me) rather than Xanax which I had before, I have been having all these weird feelings and thoughts. I have this electrical sensation running through my head all the time and this has been going on for about 2 days now (which is when I started the Depikote (2 days ago) I'm also feeling really forgetful, confused, out of it, tired and like I'm going to suddenly pass out, its all scaring me. I also get the electrical feeling and passing out feeling really bad with sudden movements or loud noises, etc. Can anyone help me and let me know whats going on please?

Oh and one other thing, last night I also got this weird feeling in my face last night and it felt like my face was really tense and numb.

Somebody help please!

it just sounds like more anxiety symptoms to me. if you were on both depakote and seroquel before and they didn't cause increased anxiety then i doubt they are causing you any problems. you'll probably just have to wait until they start working better or change dosage. same with the klonopin. if you were on xanax then you'll be fine with klonopin. your anxiety is worsening but if those meds worked before then they should work again.

Okay thank you, I talked to my nurse practicioner after I posted this earlier today and she said it sounded like a mix of anxiety and me just getting used to the medication again and that I'll be fine. The way I was first suppose to build up the tolerance again of the Depikote was 1 pill for 4 nights then 2 for 4 nights 3 for 4 night then 4 from then on which is where I was at before, was at 4 pills. I feel better already just knowing that the meds are not making me sick so I think I'll be fine now. One other thing though, I've been so concentrated on my breathing lately that I feel that at some points I am not breathing correctly and I kept thinking I was going to stop breathing, this has never happened to me before until recently (like I said the past week or two)...ugh this all just sucks!

I forgot to mention this is only the third day I have been on the Depikote, as in tonight i will take my third pill. She also changed it so I now take only one pill for 6 days before moving to two pills so I have more time for my body to get used to the meds before increasing the dosage. She also wants me to call her next Wednesday when I've started taking 2 to see how I feel so I feel more comfortable about this now.

What were you diagnosed with?  That is a lot of medication for any anxiety disorder.  Just the Xanax or Klonopin should work for you at the correct dose.  I don't believe in multiple meds.  Nobody knows how these meds really work on their own much less how they work together.  I'd keep a journal and see ho you feel day by day.  If you aren't feeling better after a week, then you know to go back to what you were doing before.

Take care,
OE

I have anxiety, depression, and bi polar, I also think I have OCD because I tend to obsess over everything which makes it worse. Oh by the way I only take the Klonopin when needed and I have only needed half last night (.25) and that was the last time I took it since about 3-4 days ago. Thanks so much for the help everyone! Ocdengineer I'll keep you posted.

I was on Seroquel, Depikote, and Effexor before I was last taken off the meds around the end of July or beginning of August I think it was. And I also had Xanax at that time too when needed. If your wondering anything else just ask because I really appreciate the help and would like to know what you guys think!

Oh I must also add I have bad hypocondria and I tend to look up things on the computer to try to diagnose myself with what I think is wrong (cybercondria I believe that is) but I always worry its something a lot worse then it is. I just have a bunch of stuff running through my mind with all the stuff that's going on with me.

The Seroquel I believe is for both and the Depikote is more for the Bi Polar/Depression side of it.

i know klonopin and depakote actually interact but, i guess if you doc and pharmacist think it's okay then you'll be alright. i know seroquel can cause jitteriness while your getting used to it. they all can be used for anxiety so you should eventually help you out.

Okay thanks, I have another question. Lately, (since the anxiety came back) I have been feeling like I can't really breath too good at certain times. I went to the hospital twice since this started and the second time I was there they did some tests. They did blood tests, hooked me up to a machine that shows your heart rate, did an MRI on my neck to check if my airway was obstructed, that kind of stuff and they said everything was okay. But I get so concentrated on my breathing that it seems to become kind of hard to breath at times. I was wondering if that is caused by anxiety because I get so worried about it at times. I know the lump in your throat feeling (Globus) is related to anxiety but I get these weird sensations with my breathing and I seem to not be able to get my mind off of it. I know it is probably anxiety but if so, how do I get rid of the feelings and the thoughts I am going to stop breathing or choke for some reason.

(Read post above first) Oh and I have to add, this happens even when I'm not anxious or having a panic attack. Sometimes when I'm thinking about it or get the sensations it causes me to get anxious or panic. I've just been having all these weird feelings even others like sudden tension in my face and other places on my body, dizziness, confusion (sometimes), etc. I know those are anxiety for the most part but what about the breathing?

anxiety meds are the only thing that helps with that. the klonopin would knock it out completely for awhile, if you were taking a higher dose. .25 isn't much, but maybe you can get your doc to increase it next time you see him or her. i don't know why they would switch you from xanax to klonopin. xanax won't interact with depakote they way klonopin will. xanax also has a shorter half life so it won't increase the sedativeness of the other drugs.

I have .50 mg of Klonopin but I only take it when needed. They switched me to Klonopin because they said that Xanax is not as long lasting. But I didn't know it counteracts with Depikote I'll ask them about that. What can happen if it does?

Yeah that's weird they would switch you from xanax for situational use as it works faster and has a shorter half life which would get it out of your system faster. I guess your doctor has his reasons though.

klonopin increases the levels of depakote in your blood stream. i think klonopin is an excellent monotherapy because it's long lasting but xanax is better on an as-needed basis. klonopin has kind of become the typical first-line benzo but your doc probably didn't realize that there is an interaction there.
