Continuing Chat Room Issues...
« on: October 24, 2008, 11:11:09 AM »
Greetings Members...

Due to continuing issues with the chat rooms, I am reinstalling the latest version again (v5.0.8) - but using a different method this time which I hope will work properly. This means that the chat rooms will be unavailable for a time.

Thank you for your patience.

After doing a screen recording of the installation error message (which was necessary since the error quickly redirected to the next install procedure before I had the opportunity to examine it), freeze-framing it so I could actually read it, googling the error message, locating it and then replacing the line of code responsible for the error (it was an install path issue), I think *maybe* we have a green light folks.

Just wanted to keep all of you updated. I am still working on this and hopefully we will have our chat room back soon - error-free.

For the first time ever, zero errors during installation and no huge input/send window. A number of other issues have been resolved as well.

Ok, done!. I've also made a number of changes to the settings to address many of the in-chat issues some people were experiencing. Hopefully, everything will be calm and peaceful again now.

Please remember that if someone is bothering you, your only recourse is the ignore option. The "bad word" filter can only do so much (people can always find a variation of an offensive word to use). If someone continues to bother you, please consult a Moderator or myself so the issue can be looked into.

Also, please remember that while it's really cool to joke, have fun and even blow off a little steam from time to time, it is NEVER ok to insult other people, harass them, use racial slurs, threaten people, make fun of their issues, discuss (or provide links to) pirated, pornographic or illegal material, use profane, vulgar or extremely foul language, etc. Anyone, repeatedly caught engaging in this type of behavior will be permanently banned from the site (as well as any proxies they are using).

Our forums are intended to provide a safe and supportive place for people suffering from anxiety (and related) disorders and when this type of behavior goes on, it discourages newcomers to the chat rooms from seeking much-needed help.

I just thought I would mention that by registering with a username and password in order to use the chat rooms, you virtually eliminate the possibility of an imposture using your identity to cause problems (unless you give them your password). This is why registering is so important.

Just a footnote...

Most people are able to register for a chat room account and then login successfully. However, if for any reason, you are unable to register and login, please let me know and a chat account will be created for you and the login information PM'd to you.

To answer a commonly asked question...

After you have gone through the initial registration process, from then on, you can simply click on the "Chat Now!" link any time you want to enter the chat rooms. It is not necessary to register each time you wish to chat.

Greetings everyone :happy0151:

The chat room has just had new features enabled (mostly sounds but other changes/features as well). These new features and changes will not function unless you clear your Flash cache by following the instructions here...

http://www.anxietyzone.com/index.php/topic,10772.0.html

You should not have to clear your Flash cache again after this unless new, major features are added or changes made

I noticed that it looks like you made some more adjustments in the room today?  I don't know if this has anything to do with it but in the chat room now, everyone in there is experience really bad lag...the worse that its ever been. Didn't know if the two were related?    laa43

Yes, it will be necessary to completely log out of chat, clear your Flash cache and then log back in again. This should resolve the lag issue and reset the client-end of the chat room so that you can use any new features/changes that have been added since this morning...

Thankfully, this whole "Flash cache" thing only has to be done once in a blue moon - mainly during Major upgrades while there is a lot of tweaking and configuring going on :happy0151:

Greetings

The chat rooms are continuing to experience issues involving registration as well as several bugs in the chat software and unfortunately nothing can be done about it until the developer releases a patch or a new version of the software.

There are several things that could be tried however but all of them would cause the chat rooms to be down again for a period of time and would either result in a less-secure chat room or one with continuing bugs...

1) Install the new version of the chat software in full caching mode and without the need to register.
2) Reinstall the old version of the software with (or without) the need to register.

I'm still working on this and apologize for the inconvenience. I realize that it's no fun at all (for any of us). Thank you very much for your patience.

Greetings Anxiety Zone Members!

I am both pleased (and greatly relieved) to announce that the chat rooms are once again back to normal. Registration is no longer required, the user-friendly theme is back and all (if not most) of the bugs are gone.

Some day when a newer version of the chat software is released that doesn't contain so many bugs, I will test it on a separate server before installing it here. I will also keep an eye on FlashChat's main site and when I see that all of these issues have been addressed then I might give it another try but until then, the chat room you see now, is going to be around for the foreseeable future since we've been using it for years and have never experienced a problem.

Once again, you will need to follow the instructions here...

I want to thank you all again for your patience and hope everyone has an anxiety-free day :happy0151:
