symptoms of anxiety/hypochondria
« on: October 05, 2008, 01:53:30 AM »
ok.. this is kind of a background of where im at before I post my question... i am 22/male/ and according to the docs i am healthy.... about 3 years ago i had bells paulsy (paralysis of one side of the face) and ever since then i have been a severe hyprochondriac always checking my facial expressions and nerves constantly in fear of getting that again... n e way   I notice ever since then i am constantly getting weird twitches, facial stiffness, burning, blah blah blah basically every symptom of a neurological disorder but i had a mri and cat scan when i was diagnosed with paulsy and nothing was found abnormal... so now i am in a bad state of mind... i am constantly wanting to go talk to a doctor about my symptoms of twitches and tingles and numbness... and i constanly tap my wrists and stuff to feel if the nerves are sensitive (i know its very strange) but now I have symptoms of carpal tunnel in my left hand for a couple months now and am scared is neuropathy or ms when in reality i think by tapping that nerve in my wrist so much i damaged it and caused this numbness (it feels like its SLOWLY healing)  but n e ways, my questions are does anybody else have the fear of ms/neuro disorder?? do you get the symptoms??? also, I have noticed that my nerves are very sensitive for the last couple years.. such as my wrists/ankles/face all feel sensitive to the touch... its very late and im just typing everything that comes to mind so i apologize if there is any typos or just too much to read lol   but guys please talk to me and respond becasue I need to talk to people who understand this cuz everybody i have to talk to is annoyed with me and just call me a hypochondriac   :(   thanks to all who post!!

Hi

Mine started with all the symptoms of carpel tunnel ... but it wasn't that. I have had a clear MRI for MS and have been told I sufer from anxiety. I get the twitching, numbness, burning, tingling etc.... the list is long. :yes

Most of us on here sufer from the symptoms you have list and believe, or at some stage believed, that they have ms or a neuro disorder.

You are not alone! :action-smiley-065:

Take care

the symptom that makes me the most paranoid is how I have very sensitive nerves to the touch... for example if i barely tap my funny bone or my wrist it will send a shock feeling through other nerves... I mean I know we all have spots that are more sensitive to get hit or touch but ever since my anxiety these spots are extremely sensitive.. have you experienced this as well?

Hi, Welcome!

Go to the Search bar on the home page and type in any of your symptoms and you will see that hundreds of people suffer from the same sensations that you do. A clean MRI is a great reassurance! I cant say that I have experience my nerves being sensitive to the touch but Ive had alot of other symptoms, all of which intensify as my anxiety intensifies.

You are in the right place... If your doctor has ruled out any disease, it could be that you are very hyper aware of certain symptoms.  Many of us, including myself, have been in your shoes...  To start moving past it is to stop "checking".  I know it's a hard habit (obsession) to break, but it's the only way.

Keep reading around the boards, the MS topic is a great one.  You can also search for MS, Neuro, etc... and see that there are a lot of people who have had these fears.

This is the (C) compulsion part of OCD... it is very hard to stop this, but you really need to try. When people are under stress nerves get charged up... your body can go into a hypersensitive mode. When i get worried and stressed... its like i can feel every square millimeter of my skin - and I tend to focus on it..

You should ask your doc for a good therapist, and maybe some meds to help you cope through this like Lexapro, etc.
