GAD/Pure O
« on: September 02, 2008, 02:46:54 PM »
I ve posted once here before but I still cant work out what exactly is wrong with me

I initially was upset about a remark made by someone which spiralled out into random unwanted thoughts and what if thoughts etc now that has subsided.

I dont think it is causing me anyworry anymore. The only physical symptons I use to get was just tense shoulders.

Then it progressed on to me becoming anxious at random times which started to get annoying.

But now I just feel constantly anxious and I find myself scanning my head for reasons for this. I noticed it was a lot worse today after a couple of expresso.

Just had too much couldnt do anything at work today, had to leave early as I was so exhausted. Feeling better now after a little nap.

Still dont know what to do as to seeing a doctor(Dont really want any drug treatment) or self help although I have read a lot of articles online but I still havent had anything that works for me

Any suggesstions of useful articles or books that would help

Thanks

ah yes the fear of the fear.this is bascially what causes attacks is fearing that it will happen, and the more you think about it, it will! I have found many useful books, one of the best "From Panic to Power" by Lucinda Bassett. if you look up on amazon or at your library there will be tons of good choices. try to remember that panic attacks won't kill you and anxiety won't hurt you. don't be afraid of having an attack and it won't happen. if you start to feel your symptoms, get up and occupy your mind with something else. good luck & God bless

oh yeah and I would go see a psychiatrist let him evaluate you, explain to him that you would rather not be medicated and he will refer you to therapy. General practitioners don't know much about it so all they do is prescribe medicine. getting help is the best thing you can do for yourself and it will give you control - not the anxiety

Thanks for the response. After having such a low yesterday. I have decided to fight it on my own from today onwards.

One little thing I have noticed is when I literally thinking about nothing or positive thoughts. A voice in my head always pops up starts questioning if there isn't something else to I should be worrying about.

Dunno if any of you get this and how do you go about it.

Very Strange!

What you're describing is plain old GAD. Fear of this, fear of that, fear of the fear etc. I've felt that way 90% of the time for the past two years.

CBT attempts to challenge these thoughts to prevent the anxiety that results from them.

if you have had a big change in the way you think and feel I think that you should go and have a physical - I am not a doctor but sometimes thyroid issues can cause these symptoms - also issues with blood sugar.

once you know you are Ok there are lots of things you can to to help yourself

keep a journal - write down your thoughts your fears - I have found that this helps me to let go of some of my anxiety

exercise - I hate it but it helps - clears your mind - lowers your cortisol levels (stress hormones) and raises your serotonin levels

find people who you can talk to and understand - I have a few friends who also suffer from this and one of the best "medicines" is to talk about how crazy we are - the laughter helps to put it into perspective

if these things don't work - do not rule out medication - I was opposed to medication - I thought it meant I was weak and could not control my life - with that said once I got on medication I got my life back - my mind was free from constant worry - I was once again able to be creative - experience joy and have moments of peace

I wish you the best
