Navane Navane is an antipsychotic of the thioxanthene series and is considered a conventional or typical antipsychotic medication. It is a thioxanthene derivative and is the cis isomer of N,Ndimethyl- 9-[3-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-propylidene] thioxanthene-2-sulfonamide. Navane is available in generic form as thiothixene. Although widely used in the treatment of schizophrenia for several decades, Navane is seldom used today in favor of atypical antipsychotics such as Zyprexa. Although the side effects of Navane were similar to those of other typical antipsychotics, such as tardive dyskinesia and Neuroleptic malignant syndrome , Navane was also aanecdotally linked to violent behavior following several homicides committed by individuals taking the drug.
